Jan 20 2009

Nigeria’s largest commercial airline, Arik Air, has selected Servisair and Servisair Cargo to provide its ground and cargo handling at London Heathrow as it embarks on the first phase of its international expansion.

The Lagos based carrier has developed a strong domestic network in Nigeria since it was founded in 2006, and currently operates around 100 internal and regional flights per day.

Its Heathrow operation was successfully launched on 15 December 2008 with a daily service to Lagos. Operating the route with brand new A340-500 aircraft, the airline offers an enhanced premier cabin with 36 fully lie-flat seat beds, plus 201 seats in Economy Class, and will start to carry cargo in the New Year.

The multi-year contracts secured by Servisair and its separate cargo division, Servisair Cargo, cover full passenger and ramp at Terminal 2 and cargo handling at the Heathrow Handling Facility on Shoreham Road.

Speaking of the new business, Darren Harding, VP Business Development for Servisair comments “We are pleased to welcome Arik Air into our customer portfolio at Heathrow and following a very successful launch, we hope this relationship will continue to develop as they embark on their ambitious programme of international expansion.”

Mohammed Akhlaq, VP Business Development for Servisair Cargo adds “We are delighted to be working with Arik Air during this exciting time of their development and hope we can assist the development of their cargo business at this important hub.”

Dr Michael Arumemi-Ikhide, Managing Director for Arik Air International comments “As a new entrant into the competitive Heathrow market we were looking for an established and reliable handling partner and are very pleased to be working in conjunction with Servisair and Servisair Cargo.”
